Deodorant Dangers

Deodorant has come under fire in recent years because many of the chemicals used have been shown to potentially cause harm. Parabens are a type of synthetic preservative and they are often found in a variety of beauty and hygiene products. It is believed that when you use parabens and your body absorbs them that they can negatively impact hormonal balance in the body. This hormonal upset may increase the risk of certain cancers, organ toxicity and birth defects.

Propylene Glycol

This is very commonly found in deodorants and is generally used to make them soft and able to glide on. It is known that when this chemical is used in large amounts that it can cause damage to the heart, liver and central nervous system. It is argued that it is safe in small amounts, but those who oppose this chemical say that the potential for danger is there in any amount.

Pthalates

Pthalates are common in deodorants and they are present to create a better consistency by dissolving other ingredients. High levels of this chemical in the urine has been linked to causing birth defects. It has also been suggested that this chemical could possibly increase the chances of cell mutation in the body. These chemicals used to be widely found in baby products and many companies have ceased using them due to the potential for harm.
