Armpit rashes are quite common and can take on many different appearances, but basically an armpit rash is inflammation or redness of the skin which is located in the armpit. It is important to recognize the symptoms of an underarm infection so you can fix the problem, gaining relief and preventing worse infections down the road. If left unattended, the irritation will continue and perhaps get even worse.
General symptoms of an underarm infection include:
· Itching
· Burning
· Rash
· Flakiness
· Darkening of the skin
· Pain
· Increased odor
· Pimple-like formations, usually the result of an ingrown hair
Sometimes the skin is simply red and itchy. In other cases, there may be raised bumps of various sizes, or the skin may be scaly and painful. These symptoms can range from a mild annoyance that is easily overlooked to a severe infection that causes incessant discomfort. It can be a one-time occurrence or a regular ordeal that you deal with.
Like all aspects of your body, it’s important to listen to your body’s signals. When you experience discomfort, it’s usually a sign that there is a problem that needs to be addressed, whether it be a minor issue or a major health concern. Although most underarm rashes are not serious and can be treated fairly easily, there are some cases where a rash can turn into a serious infection or the cause of the rash could be a disease or major allergy.
If you are concerned that your hygiene products may be the cause of your rash, try cleaning your armpits thoroughly with Clarrskin to completely remove the potentially offending residue. (See our other blogs for causes and treatments for underarm rashes.) If you have worrisome symptoms that do not go away even after treating them and changing your hygiene products, you may want to consult your family doctor to make sure the cause is not a more serious problem.
